Spring
2001
I must say, my meeting with Mr. David Hastings went even better than
expected. To think, the poor dear actually thought I was meeting him in
New York to hire him for a photo assignment. The look on his face when
he found out otherwise was priceless. But that's not the point -- the
point is, David is going to do exactly what I want him to. And that, of
course, is break up Sam and Grace. Sam is my first love -- the only man
I have ever loved -- and he will be mine again!
Now that David is "on board" (as if he had a choice!), I can
finally kick my plan into high gear. I can hardly wait--after all, I've
been putting the pieces together for so long. The first step was making
sure Sam and Grace had their guards down. So, I pretended to "give
up" Sam forever
as if Ivy Winthrop Crane would ever give up!
But the happy couple bought it hook, line and sinker
Of course,
the second step was a bit trickier -- finding the perfect man to drive
a wedge between the Bennetts. That's where being a Crane came in handy
(every once in a while it does have its benefits). What few people know
is that the Cranes have a "human database," in which they keep
profiles on people all around the world. When they need to, they use the
information to prey on people's weaknesses to get what they want. And
that's how I found David Hastings. He fit the exact profile for the kind
of man Grace would find attractive -- strong, handsome, smart and dependable.
Of course, since he was in the database, it meant he had a "weakness,"
which I could use to my advantage. And this wasn't just any weakness --
what I have on David is so big
it would ruin his life if it were
to come out! He had no choice but to follow my orders.
Now, all I have to do is get started on "creating" a past for
David and Grace. And then, Grace Bennett will meet her long-lost first
husband. Let the games begin!
